Hi everyone, and thank you for tuning in to episode 24 of the Learn With Lels podcast.

On this episode, I spoke with Susan Lowman, the first internationally adopted person in Ontario.

This conversation was amazing; Susan’s story is so unique and incredible. She was abandoned in an apartment building in Hong Kong when she was a baby, was moved to an orphanage, and was adopted at age four by a Canadian family. At the time, international adoption was a brand-new concept in Canada, as, up until that point, Canadians were only allowed to adopt other Canadians.

In this conversation, Susan and I talked about:

  • her adoption story and some of the amazing anecdotes she has from that difficult transition into Canadian life;

  • her thoughts about her biological family and what’d she would say to her biological parents if she were to ever meet them;

  • advice for those who are trying to navigate the world of adoption; and

  • advice for those who are figuring themselves out and trying to belong in a world where they stand out in every way.

Susan’s story is so compelling. She’s experienced and learned so much on her trailblazing path, and I hope that you enjoy listening to her speak about it.
