25: Robin Pacquing on surfing Lake Ontario and creating an inclusive community of female Great Lakes surfers
Hi everyone!
Thank you for tuning into episode 25 of the Learn With Lels podcast.
Did you know that you can surf on Lake Ontario? There’s a whole community of people who surf the Great Lakes. On Lake Ontario, they surf in Oshawa, Scarborough Bluffs, Cobourg, COURTICE! All over, really!
So wild, eh? For so long, my dream’s been to be a surfer girl, and I’ve travelled to the other side of the world to learn. Meanwhile, people have been surfing down the road from my house!
On this episode, I spoke with Robin Pacquing, a leader in the Great Lakes surfing community—she’s also Filipina and is basically who I want to be in a few years.
In our conversation, we talked about:
where and how to find good lake waves;
how Robin is trying to make surfing more inclusive and diverse; and
how she got into surfing and why she loves it so much.
I am currently in Tofino working on my surfing, so this episode fits so perfectly with my life right now. I can’t wait to join Robin and the rest of the Great Lakes surfing community when I get home!
I hope you enjoy this episode and all of the surfing knowledge that Robin has to share. Also, if you haven’t tried surfing yet, you should—you don’t even have to leave Ontario to do it!
